Tjunkiya Napaltjarri (c1927-2009)

Tjunkiya Napaltjarri was born in 1927 in Kintore, a remote community in Northern Territory. The daughter of renowned artist Mitjili Nappurrula, Tjunkiya began her artistic career creating bark works. It was not until the mid 1990's that she was introduced to painting.

Tjunkiya is most readily known for depicting her signature Umari dreaming. These works represent a Rockhole Site which is located in Kiwirrkura, near the border of Northern Territory and Western Australia. She passed away in Alice Springs in 2009 after a brief illness.
