About Dino Wilson
Dino Wilson Skin: Takaringuwi (Scaly Mullet) Country: Mantiyupwi Dance: Jarrangini (Buffalo) Dot Texture Short 2 Dino is an emerging artist at Jilamara, he began painting in 2017. “I was working at Nuigu doing sport and recreation, but came back to Milikapiti and started painting at the art centre at the beginning of 2017. I was hanging around across the road, at the shop, and came over to have a look. I asked the staff if there were any jobs, and they said why don’t you come paint. I do painting here, I paint suns, sitting around the fire, my families different countries on the Tiwi islands and maranga (bush potato). Lots of circles and dots. They find maranga around Paru and Pirlingimpi, it’s not the cheeky bush potato, you can eat it. The old people still eat it. I like to paint on canvas and paper. I like going to exhibitions to see my paintings in shows. My sister worked at Munupi Arts, Francesca, before she passed away.” Dino was selected as a finalist in the inaugural King and Wood Mallesons Contemporary ATSI Art Prize in 2018.
