    About this artwork

Milkali Kutju means ‘one blood’ in Pitjantjatjara language and with this work, Robert calls for unity – for an end to racial prejudice. “I’m asking people to look beneath the surface and see that our differences are only skin deep. It doesn’t matter what colour or race you are, we all have blood running through our veins. In these works, the paper is like a skin, and the piercings I’ve burnt through its surface invite the viewer to look a little deeper, and consider what lies beneath.” – Robert Fielding
