Balgo from 1997

While artists had been painting at Balgo since the early 1980s it was not until 1988 that Warlayiriti Artists was incorporated. After this time there was a period of significant artistic exploration and confidence. From 1995 until 2002 there was a greater emphasis on the master artists and developing art from Balgo as "fine art". Balgo: Creating Country, John Carty, pages 48 and 49.

It is in this context that we are proud to show this special group of works, starting with a beautiful painting by Lucy Yukenbarri, Tjintjula Soak 1997. Family connections abound with paintings also from her husband, Helicopter Tjungurrayi, her daughter Imelda Yukenbarri Gugaman. There is a special work by Pauline Sunfly Nangala 1999 and her mother Bai Bai Napangardi and others, including a wonderful painting by Kathleen Paddoon Napanangka 2004.
