Abie Loy Kemarre

Abie Loy was born in 1972 on Utopia station, the eldest of five. Her parents Margaret Loy Pula and Ray Loy Pula, her aunt Gloria Petyarre and her grandmother Kathleen Petyarre are all celebrated artists.

With an early start to her painting career at age 19, she was mentored by her grandmother Kathleen Petyarre, who taught her to create complex optical patterns by using tiny dots and details to great effect. Abie further developed her style with innovation in design and experimentation in line, colour and form.

Abie inherited custodianship of the Bush Hen Dreaming from her Grandfather. Other themes in her work are the Bush Medicine Leaf Dreaming, Emu Dreaming, and Sandhills and Body Paint Designs including Awelye.

Abie Loy's artworks are held in major collections worldwide and her works have been exhibited widely in Australia and overseas.
