Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula (c.1930-2006)

Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula, born circa 1930 in country northeast of Kiwirrkurra, was the last surviving man of his generation. He first started painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1978, however he moved away from Papunya and only resumed painting for the company at Kiwirrkurra in 1991. Johnny Yungut had a 30-year career of exhibition history across the world, culminating in a solo showcase from the estate of the late painter in Singapore in 2017.

His work is in many collections across the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal Art Museum in Utrecht- Netherlands, the Art Gallery of NSW, Griffith University, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Hood Museum of Art, Harvard Art Museums and Toledu Museum of Art in the USA as well as a variety of private collections.
