    About this artwork

Dora Parker paints with a freedom of expression for the sites she depicts and claims her own identity in her painterly compositions. Here she interprets her own narrative for the ‘Maralinga story.’ This is the British Atomic Testing that originally displaced the Spinifex People during the 1950’s. Dora places the participation and the fallout from this barbaric act as Maralinga Mamu.’ Within Anangu culture, Mamu are the evil doers, the sinister spirits that move where bad things appear, creating sickness and destruction. Dora sees Mamu in not just the act of perpetration, but the toxic fallout left behind from the Maralinga testing.
